Copyright
- The Copyright Act, 1957 protects all kinds of works including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic. The dual criteria for claiming protection under the copyright lawis that the work should be original and converted into a material form.
- Copyright can be considered as the most significant intellectual property right in the present age as it caters to a wide range of stakeholders including artists, literary authors, actors and the film and music industry, the software industry, broadcasters, etc.
- India is a signatory to the Berne Convention; as a result of which, works of foreign nationals in the Convention countries are also protected under the Indian copyright law.
- Although registration of a copyright is not mandatory to claim protection, and the law merely considers the publication of a work, we recommend our clients to register their works in certain cases.
- We provide all sorts of services necessary for the protection of a copyright, beginning from pre-registration consultancy to the registration of a work (along with all the associated proceedings and hearings before the Registrar) to any litigation in a court of law concerning copyright infringement. We also draft agreements for licensing and assignment of copyright in works.
